GARP SCR Exam Day Checklist: What to Remember Before You Start

Confirm the basics before exam day GARP SCR Exam Day Checklist 2026

For the April 2026 SCR window, GARP lists the exam dates as April 18 to April 26, 2026, and says scheduling for that window remains open through April 24, 2026, with all deadlines set to 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time. GARP also states that candidates must schedule their exam at least 48 hours before their desired start time, and appointments are first come, first served. That means exam-day preparation really starts the day before: make sure your appointment, format, and time are confirmed in your portal rather than assuming everything is already in place. Bring the right identification and check the name carefully

One of the most important items on your checklist is your ID. GARP requires that your identification be original, valid, non-expired, government-issued, include your current photograph, and include your signature. Accepted examples include a passport, national or state ID card, and certain other government-issued documents. GARP also says the name on your registration must exactly match the name on your ID, including first name, last name, and any middle name or initial, and that there are no exceptions to this policy. A digital ID is not accepted. If you are testing in a country where you do not hold local identification, GARP says you must bring an international travel passport.

Do not arrive late or check in late

This is a small detail that can become an expensive mistake. GARP says in-person candidates are expected to know the exam-site location and arrive at least 30 minutes before the exam begins. For both in-person and online candidates, arriving late to the check-in area or checking into the online proctoring system after the time shown in the confirmation email means you will not be allowed to begin the exam and will forfeit the exam fee. For candidates who are already under pressure, that is one of the clearest reasons to treat exam day like a logistics exercise as much as an academic one.

Know what the exam actually looks like

A calm exam day starts with knowing the structure you are about to face. GARP says the SCR exam consists of 80 equally weighted multiple-choice questions, including one case study, and candidates have a maximum of four hours to complete it. The exam is offered in American English. GARP also describes the exam as not highly quantitative, although some questions may include limited arithmetic, ratios, units, or graphs and tables. In practical terms, this means candidates should not walk in expecting a calculation-heavy paper, but they should be ready to read carefully, distinguish between close answer choices, and manage time steadily across the full session.

Use only the materials GARP provides

Candidates often lose focus by worrying about what they are allowed to bring. GARP’s rules are clear. For both in-person and online exams, a digital calculator is provided on screen. For in-person testing, candidates receive an erasable note board and pen. For online proctored exams, candidates receive a digital whiteboard. GARP says candidates may not use any other scratch paper or exam-specific materials. That means there is no advantage in trying to bring your own note paper, pens, or calculator habits into the session. The better approach is to be mentally ready to use the tools exactly as provided.

Remove personal items before the exam starts

GARP prohibits personal items in the exam room or testing environment, including electronic devices, bags, coats, watches, wallets, food, drinks, pens, and pencils. In-person candidates must store these items in a locker or return them to their vehicle, and all electronic devices must be switched off. GARP also warns that if a cellphone makes noise during the exam, the candidate’s session can end without being graded. For online proctoring, the rules are just as strict: the desk must be clean, books and papers must not be within arm’s reach, extra monitors must be disconnected, and items with writing on them, such as whiteboards, may be inspected.

If you are testing online, prepare your setup properly

For online proctored SCR exams, GARP requires a suitable computer, webcam, microphone, speaker, and one display screen only. Phones and tablets cannot be used to take the exam. GARP recommends completing the Pearson VUE system test before exam day, and it also recommends restarting your computer and plugging your laptop into a power outlet before you begin. During check-in, candidates must complete an equipment check, network check, room scan, and photo-ID process. If a technical issue occurs during the exam, GARP says candidates should use the on-screen chat to contact the proctor.

Know the break rules before you begin

Finally, do not make assumptions about breaks. For in-person testing, GARP says candidates may leave the room only with proctor approval, and no extra time is added for a restroom break. For online proctored exams, GARP states that breaks are not allowed for any reason, and leaving the computer results in termination of the exam session. That is why one of the most useful final checks is simple: eat beforehand, settle your environment, and start the exam knowing exactly what is and is not allowed. On exam day, reducing preventable friction is often as important as remembering one more definition.
